Wonky Pop is a celebration of all that is warped and pleasingly eccentric in modern pop music. Like the days of Madonna and Chic, credible pop music is back and pleasing the ears of even the most staunch muso. Shoreditch now gets a regular dose of skewed magic every second Thursday of the month. Expect more amazing live acts, unexpected DJs and other beautifully twisted performances guaranteed to stimulate and entertain the most jaded music lover.
Since her (still officially unreleased) dancefloor-detonating monster ‘Stuck On Repeat’ (featuring Hot Chip’s Joe Goddard on production duties), Little Boots has had the blogosphere spinning in circles like a runaway disco ball. ‘Beautiful and thrilling’ NME gushed while reviews of the track picked up more stars than a goody-goody school prefect.
Their music is said to sound like a stretchy, goo-ey mixture of The Specials…Outkast…..Madness…..De La Soul…..Gorillaz….The Streets and Blur. At a time when musicians take music way too seriously – these boys are gonna put the fun back into listenin to tunes. To understand what KID BRITISH are all about all you have to do is see them live.
Marina and the Diamonds is the Kate Bush-esque singer/songwriter from London that has A&R men of the industry scrapping for ownership. A truly unique performer Marina will be big news in 2008, don’t forget to see her at Wonky Pop first.
Recently described by FACT magazine as “the greatest live act in the country right now”, Heartbreak bring their devistating, metal-tinged Italo-disco magic to Wonky Pop’s Halloween party. The duo – comprised of flamboyant, Bueunos Aires born vocalist Sebastian Muravchik and production mastermind Ali Renault – are becoming steadily more and more renowned for their electrically-charged, stage invasion prone live shows, which blur the boundaries between live music and religious experience.
LIVE: LITTLE BOOTS + KID BRITISH + MARINA & THE DIAMONDS + HEARTBREAK

Last saturday at London Astoria II playedone of the most popular and influential Polish blues-rock bands DZEM
Their history dates back to mid 70’s, although their first records were released in the mid 80’s. Their style varies between blues, southern rock and hard rock. Their late vocalist – Ryszard Riedel [d. 30.07.1994 due to heart failure caused by heavy drug addiction] – is an iconic figure in the history of Polish rock, followed by a nationwide cult similar to the one of Jim Morrison’s. His replacement – Jacek Dewodzki sung on 3 albums in the 2nd half of the 90’s, before being replaced by the more blues-oriented current singer – Maciej Balcar in 2001. Their last album called “2004” was released in 2004.
After the tragic death (car crash) of the pianist Pawel Berger in January 2005 the band was in a 4-month hiatus, before returning to a full activity with a new pianist in May 2005.
Each year, on the anniversary of Riedel’s death, a festival takes places in his hometown of Tychy, to commemorate him and his music and to warn young people not to use drugs. Among those performing are the biggest stars of polish rock scene along with Dzem and Cree – a band led by Riedel’s son – Sebastian
You can listen to some of Dzem songs performed in a bit different way by our Britih star DAN MANSOURI
and in a oryginal live version from London Astoria on LONDONEYETV
Kult was formed in 1982 from Kazik Staszewski’s previous band, Novelty Poland.
In July 1982 the band performed at its first concert at the Remont Club in Warsaw
Although it was not released until July 1987, the first Kult release was recorded in September 1986.
Kult’s music has its roots in punk, but now it has some elements of rock, ska, jazz, traditional balladry, reggae, and even poetry. From the start, the group has had an instantly recognizable sound and is distinguished by the voice and provocative lyrics of the lead singer, Kazik Staszewski.
Kult became famous for the atmosphere they created at their concerts and the unorthodox message in their songs. Kult’s songs attack ‘the system’, understood as a conglomerate of the communist state apparatus, the Catholic Church, and others. In the nineties Kult took on the ‘new system’, which was seen as founded on pseudo-democratic leaders, the clergy and corporations.
